What Makes Up A Program?

Behind the Scenes

The C.H.I.L.D. Organization provides help and resources to families and teachers that have children or students with learning differences or disabilities.  Throughout the school year, C.H.I.L.D. hosts educational workshops for parents and professionals.  We also organize a number of student programs and activities as well.  Our success and ability to help families where there is a learning challenge is due greatly to our volunteers.

The dedication of a proactive Executive Board and their time to plan out programs and organize C.H.I.L.D.'s community volunteers has been integral towards its achievements.  C.H.I.L.D.ís programs and student activities take hundreds of hours of time to plan, organize and implement.  This includes investigative research on topics, articles written and formatted for C.H.I.L.D.'s publication, Programs for Education, Press Releases, Conferences with Industry Professionals, Logistics, Allocating Resources, Website Management and Content Development, Public Relations and Post Program Follow-up which includes preparing summaries and professional reports, documenting our activities to outside agencies.

Recognition Night

One of the more dynamic C.H.I.L.D. programs is our Recognition Night and Awards Ceremony.  Preparations, logistics and budgeting begin 5 to 6 months in advance to host possibly hundreds of students that receive Student Services, which includes their family, to attend at no charge.  After the initial invitations are distributed, they are coordinated back to C.H.I.L.D., where the work really begins as customized certificates with the child's name and accomplishments are printed and attached into a presentation folder and award medals are organized.  Preparation also includes press releases, public relations, print program development, layout and publication, investigation and allocation of resources that will provide for donations, food, entertainment, equipment and supplies.  Included is the manual task of preparing hundred's of goodie-bags with special treats for the children.

Managing the coordination of many volunteers culminates as the awards are set up in the auditorium.  Foods and drinks are brought into the designated dining area.  Over the years arrangements have been made to include everything from coffee, juice and cake to a full scale hot and cold buffet with food servers, whereby dinner tables for groups of 4 to 8 have been prepared.  Equipment and supplies for activities and entertainment are also brought in and set up.

Afterwards, there is a huge undertaking to break down the evening's setup and to coordinate with any families of honored children that responded to attend, but were absent for the event.  C.H.I.L.D. contacts all absent parents in turn, to arrange for them to pick up their child's awards and certificate.  Thank you parents for your help in helping C.H.I.L.D.
